Student name pronunciations

Students can record phonetic spellings of their names and/or an audio recording of how to pronounce their name in Student Self-Service. That information is available via various tools in Canvas. Students and staff can view the phonetic pronunciation of a student's name and/or listen to the audio pronunciation. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that their recorded pronunciations are accurate and up to date.
Staff pronunciations are not yet available, except where staff members may have previously been an Oxford student and had recorded their pronunciations in Student Self-Service.
If the details are not accurate and the person no longer has access to Student Self-Service, please contact the Student Systems Support Centre.

Pronunciations

The Pronunciations tool is available in multiple areas of a Canvas course, mostly where student information can be found. Students can record a phonetic spelling of their name and/or add an audio file of how their name should be pronounced. If the student has recorded this information, it will be available in the Phonetic pronunciation row, or the Audio pronunciation row respectively.

If the student has not recorded this information, then either (or both) rows will state that the information is not available.
