Panopto - sharing recordings with non-enrolled viewers

While Panopto videos are easily accessible in Canvas, there may also be times when you need to share existing Panopto recordings with viewers who do not have access to your Canvas course.

This page explains how to set the sharable option in Panopto and get the link to paste into another Canvas course, or share by other means.

Note that each user has only one account in Panopto that contains all your recordings, located in various different Panopto folders which correspond to individual Canvas containers.

1. Set the shareable option in Panopto

In the Panopto Recordings tool in your Canvas course, roll your mouse over the title of the required recording to reveal a row of menu options. Click Settings.

In the window which opens, click Share in the left menu:

Select Change under the “Who can access this video” heading, and select “Your organization (unlisted)” from the dropdown menu:

2. Find and copy the link to share

No one will be able to find the recording unless you send them the link, but if they have it they can open it.

Select Copy Link. You can either paste it into another Canvas course, or send it to the necessary people.

Note: Viewers with the link will be prompted to log into Canvas which is the access point to the Panopto integration. For licence and cost reasons, the link is available only to those with an institutional affiliation, hence the need for viewers to authenticate themselves.
