Useful links – Oxford University

You may need to link to other University websites and guidance from within your Canvas course. If you build absolute links into your Canvas page, these will break if the destination link changes in the future. The way to manage this is to use a 'redirect' link instead. A redirect is a persistent link that points to a destination in a database managed by the Canvas Team. When a destination link changes, it can be updated in the central database (to point to the new destination). This means that the embedded redirect link in your Canvas page will still work and you won't need to check for broken links.

If you wish to link to any of the websites below, simply copy the hyperlink and insert it as a link behind relevant text in your Canvas page. You might like to consult the guidance on Creating and Editing Canvas Pages.

Useful links to Oxford University websites: redirect links

Notes:

  1. If you discover that one of the destination links has changed, please advise canvas@it.ox.ac.uk, providing both the embedded redirect link, as well as the required new destination. The central team will then update the destination in their database. Thereafter, the redirect link on your page will continue to work.
  2. Email the central team on canvas@it.ox.ac.uk if you have another useful University of Oxford website for which you would like us to create a new redirect.
