Linking to Module items and external web pages

Q. How do I find the link to a Module section 'title', i.e. find the URL?

A. Sometimes you may want to link to a module section starting with 'Module Title' at the top. It show its URL at the top of the browser like the others so how do you find it?

Finding the Link

  1. Create a blank Page in the course containing the Module link you want to copy. (Remember to delete the page later).
  2. Click Edit  (not HTML Editor)
  3. Look on the right navigation pane, click 'Links' and navigate to the list Modules items below.
  4. Click the title you want to find the URL for  (see screenshot below).
  5. It will then appear on the blank Page, right-click it and select 'Copy Link address'

Using the Link

  1. Navigate to the Page where you want to use it and click Edit
  2. Navigate to where you want to use it in the Page, Select or highlight some meaningful text to embed this new link to (avoid linking to one word such as 'here',  screen reader software and sight-impaired users cannot see them).
  3. Then click the 'URL Link button' on the tool ribbon
  4. Paste the link you captured in your clipboard into the field provided and Save
  5. Test it works as you expect.

The HTML landing page you want to use it in might require editing to keep its original format. We found copying the block from another course for that dept. was useful if there are several links, one for each week or topic.

  • Click the three dots (more options) on the right
  • Tick the box 'Load in a new tab'
