WebLearn
Q. What will happen to current WebLearn sites that are not directly aimed at teaching and learning?
A. WebLearn was phased out as a teaching and learning platform at the end of December 2020. Other uses of WebLearn (e.g. summative submissions, exam paper authoring and intranet-type use) have been addressed by the e-Assessment project, using Inspera and Sharepoint. For more information see the What should I use instead of Weblearn page.
For course evaluation surveys, the recommended tool is Jisc Online Surveys. More information is provided in our Student Feedback Surveys FAQ and the page How to embed a Jisc survey in a Canvas course.
Q. We offer training for staff members via WebLearn. Is that considered to be ‘teaching-and-learning’ according to the terms of use policy for Canvas at Oxford University?
A. Yes. Various departments (e.g. the Centre for Teaching and Learning, IT Services etc.) may continue to use Canvas to support the courses they offer to University staff members. Please see the Canvas Terms of Use policy.
Q. In WebLearn there were courses on Avoiding Plagiarism, and Research Integrity. Have those been converted to Canvas?
A. No. The decision was taken to host those courses in the system called 'CoSy', run by the IT Learning Centre. The CoSy system is like a 'shopping trolley' but the courses and accompanying quizzes are free. To access each of them in turn, students need to spend £0 to 'buy' them. Please follow the onscreen instructions in all cases.
The new links are as follows: (for technical reasons, the quizzes are not embedded within the courses, but have separate links)
- Research Integrity: Introductory Core Course
- Research Integrity: Refresher Course for Experienced Users
- Research Integrity: Conflicts of Interest
- Research Integrity: Research Involving Human Participants
- Research Integrity: The Care & Use of Animals in Research
- Research Integrity: Intellectual Property
- Research Integrity: Export Controls
