Safari and IE issues in Canvas

Q. Does Canvas work in Safari and Internet Explorer?

A. Chrome is the recommended web browser for the best experience and full functionality of all the third-party tools integrated into Canvas. Internet Explorer (IE) is not supported by Canvas. In Safari, there are sometimes issues with 'cookies' when users attempt to use Panopto or ORLO within Canvas. This is in part due to increased security changes that web browsers are implementing. You may try this workaround for Safari:

Visit the relevant website directly to set the first cookie:

  • ORLO - Oxford reading lists

Visit the Oxford Talis home page: https://oxford.rl.talis.com/index.html  

Browse for and view an actual reading list - this triggers an attempt to authenticate the user's SSO. After this, the reading list should display within Canvas.

  • Panopto

Visit the Panopto home page to set a cookie in your browser:  https://ox.cloud.panopto.eu
(it is not necessary to log in). After this, the Panopto videos should display within Canvas.
