Adjusting the start and end dates for a course

Q. How do I modify the term date if my course starts earlier or ends later than the default Oxford term dates?

A. Open the course you that requires early or later access:

  • Go to Settings and scroll to the Participation field
  • In the drop-down list, select Course
  • Enter a new Start and End date
  • Scroll down and click Update Course to save your settings

Important:

  • To be sure to override the standard term dates, you need to enter both the start and end dates.
  • If the end date is left blank (ie. no date in the 'Ends:' field), the course becomes open-ended for students,  but for staff the course honours the term dates. We recommend not to leave the 'Ends:' field empty. If you want the course to continue to be accessible, then set the 'Ends:' field to a date far in the future.
  • Changing the start and end dates cannot be done if you have the Local Canvas Coordinator (or Unit Admin) roles at the account level – you need to be enrolled on the course with either the Teacher or Course Administrator role.

NOTE: When setting the date, you can overtype the default time, using a 24-hour clock. We recommend being clear on times – use a deadline such as 23:59 to avoid possible confusion with 00:00 or 12:12. The timezone is set to local UK (London) time.
