Can I copy or import a course or part of a course?

Q. How do I copy a page (or other materials) from one Canvas course to a different Canvas course?

A. You can import previous courses and content into a course you are building. For example, you may want to copy pages, modules or other items and activities from another course.

On the Home page of the destination course, select Import Existing Content.

  •  In the Content type dropdown box, select Copy a Canvas course:

  • In the Search for a course box, start typing the name of the course you want to duplicate or copy content from. As you type, courses with that text in their name(s) will start coming up, Select the course from which you want to copy content.

  • Select the radio button in front of  All content or Select specific content (ideal for granular selections or reusing particular pages or modules).
  • Click the blue Import button to complete the task. A progress bar will appear, it will turn green and read Completed when the import has finished.
  • Click Modules on the left and it will all be there to edit as required.
  • If you have chosen 'Select specific content', click the new button that appears and filter through the options via the dropdown arrows. Tick the boxes of the content you would like to add to your course. As above, when it is finished processing click the Modules link and edit as needed.

Note: When duplicating an entire course ORLO reading lists must be re-linked and it is advisable to work with your Librarian. Calendar dates will be imported and moved to the next day, 'Assignments' and 'Discussions' are copied without student content.
