Course Navigation menu - visibility of tools to students
Q. How do I hide tools that students shouldn't see?
A. On the course navigation menu, any tool with a 'hidden visibility' icon (an eye with a line through it) is not visible to students.
You can control visibility of tools via the Settings menu > Navigation tab. Drag tools to the upper list to make them visible to students, or to the lower list to make them invisible to students (you will see the invisible tools marked with the 'hidden visibility' icon).
Remember: You can always check what the students see by using the Student View option on the right-hand side of the Home page.
Note: Some tools hide themselves for students if there are no published items in them for the students to see (even if you have made the tools visible on the Navigation page). This happens for Announcements, Assignments, Quizzes, Files, Pages, Modules, but not for Discussions or Collaborations (as students can in theory create new content in the latter tools themselves).
Q. As a teacher or course administrator, why do I not see the Navigation tab under Settings?
A. For any course that is in the past (i.e. it appears under your All Courses > Past Enrolments, the Navigation tab is not visible. The reason for this is that past courses are intended to serve as an archive of how the course was when it ran, and therefore no modification of tools, nor interaction within any tools, is possible.
Q. As a teacher or course administrator, why do I not see the course navigation menu ?
A. You need to click the toggle (three lines) button at the top left of the course to hide/show course navigation menu. This toggle button is also available in the account level for people with administrator (LCC/Unit Admin) access.
