Creating a Quiz

You can create a quiz by selecting Quizzes from the navigation on the left-hand side of your course screen and selecting the blue box on the right-hand side of the page + Quiz. You can then simply fill in the resulting fields to select the Quiz type and options you desire. Please ensure that you fill in the 'Due',  'Available from' and 'Until' fields. This is possible by clicking on the calendar icon and selecting a date and time for each field.

Quiz types

There are four different types of Quiz available within Canvas which are listed below.

  1. A Graded Quiz is the most common Quiz, and Canvas automatically creates a column in the Gradebook for any graded quizzes you build.
  2. A Practice Quiz is ungraded and can be used as a learning tool to help students see how well they understand the course material.  Practice quizzes do not appear in the Gradebook.
  3. A Graded Survey allows you to give students points for completing the survey; however, it is not graded based on right or wrong answers.
  4. An Ungraded Survey allows you to obtain opinions or other information from students; however, students do not receive a grade for their responses.  Ungraded Surveys do not appear in the Gradebook.
