Appointment Groups
Appointment Groups is a tool within the Canvas Calendar that allows you to create a block of time when students can arrange to meet with you. Please note that only students can sign up for appointment slots in the schedule.
How to add Appointment Groups within a course
Select the Calendar tool on the global navigation bar, and then select the relevant course calendar from those available. Either click on an individual date or alternatively, click the + button.
You should then see a window in which you can edit your event.
- Click the Appointment Group tab
- Add a title for the meeting in the Name box, and set the date and time ranges
- Select the relevant course calendar(s) by clicking the Select Calendars button – you can select multiple Canvas course calendars in which this event will occur.
Complete the remaining fields:
- Enter the meeting length e.g. 30 minutes.
- Click Go to create the appointment timeslots. If this step is not completed, a single meeting slot will be created for the specified times.
- Under Options specify how many participants may attend a single meeting slot.
- We recommend that you limit participants to book onto only one session.
- Finally click Publish when ready to make this visible to students.
Appointments will display in your calendar after a student or group has reserved a timeslot.
Further Canvas documentation is available on Appointment Groups. Links to an external site.
- Setting up appointment groups can be complex, so we advise reading the Canvas documentation carefully.
- Although the Appointment Group tool offers flexibility, some Oxford requirements are not possible to achieve – a custom Signup tool has been built for these purposes.
