Account Profile
Every Canvas user can customise their profile area and settings. Your profile can be personalised to include a picture alongside a short textual description of your role or interests. Your notification settings indicate your preferences on how and when you want to be notified of various happenings within a course.
When active in Canvas, your profile can be seen by staff and students, for example when you trigger an announcement or participate in a discussion. Teachers and course administrators can see other people's profiles via the People link in the course menu. You may choose not to upload a photograph and keep the Canvas default silhouette; however, a completed profile means that students and staff can be sure they are communicating with the right person.

While your default email address is the one recorded on the central University database, you can request a change to your first name, last name (as they appear in your email address) in Canvas, by using the Change Name/Email tool in your Account. You will be prompted to complete the required form, depending on whether you are an Oxford user or an external user. The steps are described on the student guidance page: Using the Change Name/Email tool (opens in new window).
