Supplementary subjects
Biochemistry undergraduate students can take a supplementary subject in the 2nd, 3rd and/or 4th year of the course. These are intended to provide additional breadth, outside the normal scope of the undergraduate course. These supplementary subjects are also taken by other undergraduate science students (particularly chemists).
The subjects available to biochemistry undergraduates in 2023-24 are:
- Aromatic and Heterocyclic Pharmaceutical Chemistry
- Chemical Crystallography
- Chemical Pharmacology
- History and Philosophy of Science
- Quantum Chemistry
Any student who achieves a pass in a supplementary subject will be awarded an extra 0.5% at the end of the Part II, any student who achieves a distinction will be awarded an extra 1% at the end of the Part II. These extra marks are only available for one supplementary subject per student. The exams are usually in week 9 of Hilary Term.
More information on individual subjects can be found on the Canvas sites above.
The lecture timetable can also be found on the Chemistry web site https://web.chem.ox.ac.uk/timetableweek.asp?Date=09/10/2023&Year=2
Pre-requisites
Students have identified that some of the Prelims Chemistry courses are useful pre-requisite content, particularly for the Quantum Chemistry Supplementary Subject.
