You can record the phonetic spelling of your name and/or an audio recording of how to pronounce it, in Student Self-Service. That information is then available in Canvas. You can view and listen to other students' name pronunciations, if they have been recorded. It is your responsibility to ensure that you record your pronunciations and that they are accurate.
Staff can also view and listen to student name pronunciations.
Staff pronunciations are not yet available, except where staff members may have previously been an Oxford student and had recorded their pronunciations in Student Self-Service.
If your name pronunciation details are not accurate and/or you no longer have access to Student Self-Service, please contact the Student Systems Support Centre.

Pronunciations

The Pronunciations tool is available in multiple areas of the course, where student information can be found. You can record a phonetic spelling of your name and/or add an audio file of how your name should be pronounced. If you have recorded this information, it will be available in the Phonetic pronunciation row, or the Audio pronunciation row respectively.

If a student has not recorded this information, then either (or both) rows will state that the information is not available.

Student pronunciation can be found via two tools in Canvas: People and Discussions . Each of these tools needs to have been enabled in the course by a member of staff.

People

Student pronunciations can be found via the People tool in Canvas. However this tool is rarely available to students and may not be visible to you in your particular course.

Go to People in the left-hand navigation menu
From the list of people with roles on the course, select the name of the specific student
In the Student card, which appears from the right, select Pronunciation
In the student's profile page select Pronunciation from the list of buttons on the right
If recorded, the student's pronunciation(s) details will be shown on the screen

Discussions

Student pronunciations can be found via the Discussions tool in Canvas.

Go to Discussions in the left-hand navigation menu
Select the name of a student who has contributed to the discussion
In the student's profile page select Pronunciation from the list of buttons on the right
If recorded, the student's pronunciation(s) details will be shown on the screen

Staff pronunciations are not held in Canvas (unless previously recorded if they were a student). If anyone tries to access a staff pronunciation record, they will receive an information message from Canvas:
