Change of thesis title

A student who wishes to change the title of their thesis may apply on the GSO.6 form (this form is filled in via the My Student Record section of Student Self-Service) up to the time of application for appointment of examiners. At the time of application for appointment of examiners, a change of thesis title can be requested on the application for appointment of examiners form (GSO.3).

Please note: a change of project and/or programme constitutes more than a change of thesis title (see below).

Change of supervisor

In the event that your supervision arrangements change, you must apply formally for the change(s) by completing and submitting a GSO.25 form to your departmental Graduate Studies Assistant.

You will need to submit an application for a change to your supervision arrangements if:

one of your current supervisors is to be replaced with another
you need to add an additional supervisor to your student record
you need to remove a supervisor from your student record

It is expected that you will have discussed the change(s) to your supervision arrangements with your Director of Graduate Studies prior to submitting an application.

Only supervisors formally added to your student record (either at the point of admission or via a GSO.25 form) will be able to report on your progress during Graduate Supervision Reporting (GSR).

Change of programme of study

Any student may, with the permission of the Medical Sciences Board, alter the subject and nature of the research originally approved (i.e. at admission), in which case the date of his or her admission as a Probationer Research Student shall remain unaltered, unless the Medical Sciences Board shall order otherwise. In most cases the date of admission and fee liability is reset. Contact the Graduate School Assistants for further advice.

If you want to change your research project and stay on the same programme of study, please contact your departmental Graduate Studies Administrator for advice.

If you want to change your programme of study (e.g. from DPhil to MSc by Research or to a programme in a different department), this must be approved by the Medical Sciences Board. You will need to complete and submit a GSO.28 form to the your departmental Graduate Studies Assistant.
