Announcements FAQ
Q: How are students alerted to new announcements sent via the Announcements tool?
A: Announcements is a course tool for communicating with students in a course (or sub-sets of students if Sections have been defined). Announcements are useful for providing updates, reminders, feedback and other important information.
For students, alerts to new announcements appear on their course card (on the Dashboard in Card view):
Students will also receive the announcement via email, unless they have disabled their notifications from the Announcements tool. Therefore, in order to avoid missing important information, students should be warned not to disable notifications for announcements in their own Notification settings.

Q: Can I set up a new announcement in advance, to be sent on a particular date?
A: Yes. When creating the new announcement, use the Delay Posting option and insert a date and time of your choice. The announcement will be sent to course participants at that time:
Q: Can I set up a new announcement in a course that is as yet unpublished?
A: Although you can create an announcement in an unpublished course, a warning will appear that email notifications will not be sent to participants when the course is published. Use the Delay Posting option (see the FAQ above) to set the publication date and time for the announcement to appear after you plan to publish the course (so that notifications will then be sent).
Q: Can I edit an existing announcement?
A: Yes, you can edit an existing announcement, but note that no new email notifications will be sent to course participants.
You should create a new announcement if you want course participants to receive an email notification containing the new information.
