Assigning sub-account roles to staff

Q. How do I find a course in a sub-account that I have access to?

A. Click on the Admin icon in the blue Global Navigation menu and browse through the list, or search by name or code number if you know it.  To help you find a course more quickly, you can filter by year.

Q. How do I give course administrators or teaching staff access to a sub-account?

A. Granting sub-account roles to your colleagues will enable them to see all the courses in that sub-account without being enrolled in each course.

To grant sub-account access:

  1. Click the correct sub-account link (UG, PGT, PGR or a single Programme) provided by your Canvas team contact.
  2. Click the Settings (bottom of the left-hand menu).
  3. Click the Admins tab along the top.
  4. Scroll down to +Account admins button.
  5. Select the relevant role from the drop-down list of sub-account roles (at the sub-account level your course administrators will require the Unit Admin role).
  6. Enter the email addresses or SSO usernames and click Continue.
  7. Double check the list of the users and selected role.  If correct, click OK or click Go back if you need to edit the list before completing this action.

Note: In order to participate in course activities (and have the course appear on their Dashboard), staff members will still need to be enrolled in each course using the '+People' tab, with an appropriate course-level role (e.g. 'Teacher', 'Course Administrator', 'TA', 'Observer') .

A. Ask your Local Canvas Coordinator (LCC) to add you to the sub-account level you require and the access role needed. A role other than Librarian may be appropriate.
